there is an expression "when the cats away the mice will play"..i have been a member of sites where the moderators seem to be invisible, they dont seem to be really interested in what happens on the forum, it ,for a year i was a member on a predomominatly MUSLIM site where there were only 2 christians ,myself being one, we received a lot of flack , and personal insults from the muslim members, when i complained to the monitor twice i received no reply, so i thought okay, i then started to use the QURAN to show them contradictions in their beleifs,my other christian friend joined in ,and when we were beginning to make an impact by using just scripture from the quran and the bible, the muslim monitor appeared out of nowhere and informed us that our posts were offensive to all muslims....yet he ignored their personal insults to us...its important to have fair and impartial monitors ,otherwise the whole thing ends up in chaos...incidently me and my friend left willingly the religious forumn on that site 6 months ago ,and i made a quick visit to it a week ago ,and it was completly dead there had not been made one post in two weeks.......let us not make the same mistake here...let us understand that the mods sometimes have a difficult task..you will always offend someone no matter what you say.....so let us all find a common ground to work on ,because if we or the world do NOT find a common ground on which to work together ,then the consequences will not be very pleasant, and thats putting it MILDLY....SUNLIGHT
Ah yes there you kind of have my point though. that forum was bad because it was very biased.
had you been posting a muslims suck and are evil terrorists , then one could say you were bad and deserved banning or warning. but since you were just stating an opposing view in a reasonable way then they should have allowed it.
Also Your example kind of showed my point in that although most of those muslims will never likely admit to it ,your opposing views there most likely attracted them to the forum because of your opposing views.
because people go to debate important or exciting things if there are no opposing views and no exciting topics a forum dies.
So examples of what I mean would be.
good and should be allowed
India is right in the conflict with Pakistan because (give reasons)
Bad and shouldn't be allowed.
India is right because paks suck and should all die.
so you see I think all subjects should be open to debate and discussion but also only reasoned debate and discussion not outright flaming swearing and name calling.
But intelligent adults should always be able to discuss all topics even the most emotive ones in a reasoned way so mods should only really interfere ban or delete when a discussion or a persons posts are just purely abuse but any reasonably and rationally stated viewpoint should be allowed no matter how distastful some may find it.
